The fourth of a series of penny readings, under the auspices of the Mechanic's Institute, was given in the Albert Hall on Monday evening by Mr R. Cooke, editor, 'Galloway Gazette,' the proceeds being for the benefit of the poor. The selections were from Theodore Hook, Carpenter, Hood, Dickens, and others. The readings were both grave and gay, from lively to severe. A capital glee party sang at intervals, the whole forming an admirable entertainment. The collection taken amounted to £2 5s. Sour
