NEW YEAR'S DAY

The New Year was ushered in according to former custom by a procession of fantastically dressed young men carrying blazing tar barrels shoulder high. They were preceded by a fife and drum band. Services were held in some of the churches and in the evening a ball was held under the auspices the fife and drum band.
