For the last fortnight we had little more rain than wet the surface of the ground, which is most favourable to crops now so far advanced. Turnips have come away rapidly, and would do best now with sunshine. It was feared there might be some danger of disease amongst the potatoes, but that danger has been lessened now that the barometer has risen, and it in to be hoped we may have settled weather. Hay is at present the chief employment with farmers, and a good deal of it is in ricks. The crop generally is light, so is the case with meadow hay. Oats are an excellent crop, but the harvest will likely be a week or so later this year. Potatoes of the earlier varieties are now generally in use, they are sold retail 1d per lb. A great breadth has this year been planted, and should the weather continue favourable a very profitable return may be expected.
