The Free Presbytery of Wigtown, with the four assessors appointed by the General Assembly, had a long sitting in Newton-Stewart on Wednesday week making further inquiry into this ease. The proceedings were conducted in private, but we learn there was a recapitulation of the former evidence taken before the Presbytery and a re-examination of the principal witnesses in the case with a view of clearing up the matter. At the close of the proceedings the Court came to the following deliverance: —"The Presbytery, having heard parties, agreed to delay coining to any conclusion in the meantime, in order to give Mr Strachan an opportunity to consider seriously his whole position in the light of what has taken place, and appointed the following committee to confer with him :—Revs. Dr Laughton and Inglis, and Mesrrs Anderson, Thomson, and McTaggart, to report to a future meeting of Presbytery within 14 days"
