Mr Irvine, tailor and precentor in the Free Church, Newton Stewart., met his death on Friday night under peculiarly painful circumstances. The horse attached to the Cumloden game cart ran off from the railway station, and white it was careering through the town in the darkness of the night deceased in coming round a corner was caught between the shaft of the vehicle and the animal's side, where he was fixed as in a vice. His loud cries as the horse and cart dashed through the street created great excitement, but all attempts to stop the animal were vain. After Irvine had been borne along thus for half-a mile he fell at Cree Bridge, the horse and cart still going on. He was taken to an adjoining house and attended by Doctors Dickson and Clarke. After suffering great agony he died at 11 o'clock, his breast hone having been broken, besides other Deceased, who was 35 years of age, was a native of Kilmarnock, and for upwards of 12 years precentor in the Free Church. He was well known and highly respected throughout the town and neighbourhood, and great sympathy is felt for his bereft widow and four children, A collection was taken for the widow at All Saints Episcopal Church on Christmas which amounted to nearly ĢI0, and we believe a collection will be taken in the Free Church for the same purpose.
